A UX’er called Harry Brignull has setup a pattern library called Dark Patterns where he identifies interface and interaction patterns that have developed / been developed that aren’t really user centred. Here’s an interesting presentation he’s put together to give an overview of this library.

Thanks to my company EMC, I was able to attend this years dConstruct in Brighton last week. It was a day long conference about aspects of creativity aimed at the web design community. The high points for me were the talks by Marty Neumeier and David McCandless. I find David McCandless’ work on data visualisation particularly intriguing. I love the way he can pull stories out of a set of data, and do it with such design style. Plus he does a good presentation. The clip below shows pretty much what he presented at dConstruct.
I do like the design of this site. Their information design, their use of big and bold typography, engaging but not distracting iconography, and their use of colour – bold but not noisy.
